Siblings of children with cancer: their need for support

In Sweden, there are currently no screening instruments that can assist healthcare services and other societal actors in identifying siblings’ needs for support, as well as their grief in response to their brother or sister being diagnosed with cancer.

This study aims to translate two English-language instruments into Swedish and to test their properties in a Swedish context. One of the instruments, the Sibling Cancer Need Instrument (SCNI), originates from Australia and is designed to measure siblings’ need for support. The other instrument, developed in the United States, is intended to measure prolonged grief when a child is ill (Prolonged Grief, PG-12). Following translation, the Swedish versions will be tested to ensure their suitability within a Swedish context. Statistical analyses will be conducted to examine whether the instruments measure what they are intended to measure, as well as their accuracy and psychometric properties.
