Values and co-production in health and social care provided by non-profit organisations: a case study of pre-conditions, mechanisms and results at Bräcke diakonia

This project is about values and co-production in health and social care that is provided by non-profit organisations. At the same time as welfare services becomes increasingly pluralistic, for example regarding the role of citizens and non-profit organisations, co-production has experienced a renaissance. The aim of this research is partly to contribute to previous research on co-production, and partly to identify areas for development within health and social care provided by non-profit organisations.

The project focuses on the pre-conditions for, mechanisms of, and results of values and co-production, for example motives for co-production, which groups participate, how co-production is organised, and the impact of factors such as quality and participation. Using neo-institutional theory as an analytical framework, and the case study as a method, Bräcke diakonia’s activities will be studied and analysed as a relevant empirical case of values and co-production.

Results and contributions from the project include identifying development areas for practical training and research, for example concerning the staff’s motives, structural conditions and mechanisms for co-production, and how co-production is reported to affect quality, democracy, participation, and taking responsibility.
