Field of work
Carina is a professor in health care science, and chair professor for the doctoral education in health care science at the university. She has extensive clinical experience as a registered nurse and specialist nurse, primarily in palliative care. Additionally, she possesses broad experience in academic leadership and health care science research.
Research
Carina’s research spans both clinical and education-related areas. Her clinical research primarily focuses on person-centered care and palliative and cancer care. Her research aims to develop approaches for identifying patients’ symptoms, support needs, and explores the potential for nurse-led interventions based. Her education-related research addresses how nursing students can be prepared to care for seriously ill and dying persons, and how existential conversations can be practiced using artificial intelligence (AI).
Several of Carina’s projects are conducted as intervention research using qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method approaches. The framework for complex interventions is frequently applied in the development and evaluation of these interventions. She is actively involved in the development of interdisciplinary research with a focus on issues surrounding dying and death in the society. Carina collaborates with doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers, as well as national and international colleagues, both as a research leader and as a co-investigator in various projects.
Teaching
Carina has extensive experience in higher education through her leadership and development of academic programs. As program director for education at both advanced and doctoral levels, she has played a central role in the development of educational programs at a strategic level, as well as individual courses in the capacity of course coordinator and examiner. She has substantial experience in teaching and supervising numerous doctoral students and has served on examination committees and as opponent at both national and international institutions.
Collaboration and Engagement
Carina engages with society through the dissemination of her research and professional expertise in the form of popular science publications and educational materials. She also collaborates with higher education institutions both nationally and internationally in various peer-review and evaluation assignments, covering both scientific and pedagogical aspects.
