Henrik Lerner’s research has investigated the relationship between humans and animals, as well as the concept formation in veterinary and human medicine. In particular, the concepts of health, well-being and welfare have been studied. Nowadays, Dr Lerner’s focus is on the existing explanatory models on the relationship between horse and man, and the significance of these for horse-assisted therapy.
Dr Lerner is also doing research on the philosophy of the "One Health" movement, an initiative that is working to unify veterinary medicine, human medicine and biology in respect to health.
In addition, he has conducted research on the concept of traditional knowledge and its implications for the conservation of species.
