Ebba Henrekson is a researcher at the Center for Civil Society Research at Marie Cederschiöld University and the Center for Educational Leadership and Excellence at the Stockholm School of Economics.

Her dissertation concerned the privatization of the Swedish school system and the organizational development of the school sector following the 1992 school choice reform. Since then, profit-driven companies have gained a significant foothold and constitute a much larger share of the school system compared to non-profit organizations and foundations. This has happened despite a clearly pronounced political intention to promote increased pluralism in the school sector. The aim of the thesis was to contribute to a better understanding of the conditions facing secular and confessional nonprofit schools, both during the establishment process and the day-to-day operations.

Ebba is currently involved in several research projects concerning nonprofit education, faith-based schools, volunteering, and social trust. She has previously studied nonprofit financing through the organization of gambling and lotteries.
